The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has launched a new global investor alert portal – the International Securities & Commodities Alerts Network (I-SCAN) – with the aim of strengthening investor protection and more effectively combating investment fraud.
I-SCAN is a centralized platform through which investors, banks and other interested stakeholders can verify whether a warning has been issued by a financial regulator in any jurisdiction in relation to a particular entity or investment offering. The platform consolidates information on entities identified as providing investment services without authorization or as being associated with suspicious activities.
Through this platform, IOSCO collects alerts and notifications from its members regarding entities that are not authorized to provide investment services in the jurisdiction that issued the warning. Certain alerts also relate to entities that use names similar to those of authorized firms or that falsely claim affiliation with licensed institutions.
The launch of I-SCAN forms part of IOSCO’s Roadmap for Retail Investor Online Safety initiative, aimed at enhancing the safety of retail investors in the digital environment and responding to the growing risks associated with online trading and digital platforms.
The Securities Commission of the Republic of Serbia, as an IOSCO member, supports this initiative and encourages investors to verify, prior to making investment decisions, whether a warning has been issued by a competent regulator in respect of a given entity.
More information is available on the official IOSCO website, as well as on the dedicated I-SCAN webpage, accessible at the following link: https://www.iosco.org/i-scan/
